[dirGames-L] OT: Xbox 360 Using Flash

Greetings all,

This has been a hot topic over the last few days among people trying to
hack the new Xbox 360, but I thought it was interesting from a dev point
of view as well:

It seems the Xbox 360 has had a version of the Flash Player ported to
it! Some Xbox Live Arcade games (games you can download from the Live
service directly) are actually Flash. Hexic being one example.

Some people have managed to get their own Flash SWF's running on the 360
by replacing a demo version of Hexic with their own file on a 360 demo
disc. The demo disc was originally released by Microsoft but did not
contain a media flag to prevent it from running on anything other than
their special media. Thus you can modify and burn the ISO to CDRW and it
plays back just fine.

If you're interested there's some more info here:

And some information on getURL being used to let Flash communicate with
Live:

(See post #33 by "kanderson")

This could be interesting if MS do open up Xbox development to smaller
game houses as they imply they might:

It would be quite interesting if Flash projects could be distributed
this way...

Ian
